Living in the most northern metropolis city in Canada means winter gets to be quite long and dark. I am very much a night owl, so I would become giddy when the nights were only getting longer but the last few years they have been stirring up some anxious feelings, maybe because now the daytime always seems to get away from me.
And then there is Elk Island National Park. My friends and I go to Elk Island a few times a year. It's a close retreat to the wilderness when we need a break from the city life. After a good hike, foraging for rose hips, a fire, food and sometimes a canoe, everything seems to reset. Here are some photos from our last outing. On this particular day we got to see the most spectacular sunset and we definitely didn't let it get away from us.
